Terms of use
These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of Super Massive Games at supermasivegames.com, referred to below as "the site", "we" or "us". They are written to be read once and understood, not to be scrolled past. None of this is legal advice, and none of it removes a right that the consumer law of your own country grants you and does not allow to be waived by agreement.
1. Acceptance
Loading a page on this site means you accept these terms as they stand at that moment. If any part of them is unacceptable to you, the remedy is simple: close the tab and do not use the site. No account is created and no signature is required, so use is the only form of acceptance there is. If you are using the site on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are entitled to accept these terms for it.
2. What the site is
Super Massive Games is a free collection of arcade games and written tip sheets, published for entertainment. Everything runs in your browser on your own hardware. There is nothing to buy, nothing to subscribe to and no account to register.
Emphatically, there is no gambling here. No game accepts a wager, charges an entry fee, awards a prize, pays out money or issues any token, credit or currency that can be bought, sold or exchanged for anything of value. Points and times are numbers on a screen, stored on your own device, and they confer nothing. Where we publish a typical score, a difficulty rating or a timing window, that number came out of sessions we played ourselves and is context only — never a verified record, and never a promise that you will see the same result. The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13; if you are a minor where you live, use it with a parent or guardian involved.
3. Permitted use
You are welcome to play every game as often as you like, read every tip sheet, and link to any page here from anywhere, including from social media and from your own site. You may quote a short extract of our writing — a sentence or two — provided you credit Super Massive Games and include a working link to the page you took it from. Teachers, clubs and anyone else may point a group of people at a game page and let them play; that is normal use, not redistribution.
4. Prohibited use
The following are not permitted, and the list is meant to be read as examples of a single principle: do not take our work and pass it off, resell it, or attack the service.
- Bulk scraping and mirroring. Automated crawling beyond ordinary search-engine indexing, harvesting our pages at volume, or reproducing the site or any substantial part of it at another address.
- Reverse engineering for redistribution. The game scripts are readable because the web works that way, and reading them to learn is fine. Decompiling, extracting, rewriting or repackaging them so that a copy of one of our games can be published, distributed or embedded elsewhere is not.
- Commercial exploitation of the games. Selling, licensing, bundling or otherwise monetising our games or their code, including hosting them behind your own advertising, requires our written permission, which you are welcome to ask for.
- Passing our work off as yours. Republishing our text, removing credits, or framing a page of this site inside another so that it appears to belong to somebody else.
- Interference. Attempting to overload, probe, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the site or the infrastructure behind it; uploading anything malicious; or abusing the contact form for spam, mass mailing or link solicitation.
- Unlawful use. Using the site in any way that breaks a law that applies to you.
5. Intellectual property
The page text, the tip sheets, the layout, the stylesheet, the artwork, the site name, the logo and every game implementation published here were made by us and are protected by copyright. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.
What we do not claim is equally important. The underlying concepts of the classics we implement — steering a growing line around a grid, bouncing a ball into a wall of bricks, returning a ball across a two-player court, hitting targets as they appear, repeating a sequence of signals, stacking blocks under a timing window, merging numbered tiles — are decades-old game ideas that belong to nobody in particular, and certainly not to us. We wrote each version on this site from scratch. Where a classic is popularly associated with a commercial product or a registered trademark, that trademark remains the property of its owner; we use plain descriptive names rather than brand names, and we are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by or otherwise connected to any game publisher, arcade operator or toy manufacturer. Any brand name that appears in a historical passage is there to describe history, not to suggest a relationship.
6. Advertising
Advertising pays for the hosting. Advertisements are supplied by third-party networks, which select what you see; we do not choose individual advertisers and their appearance here is not a recommendation. We keep advertising outside the playfields, so that no advertisement can be mistaken for part of a game or block a round in progress, but we cannot vouch for the products advertised. Any transaction you enter into with an advertiser is between you and that advertiser alone. What advertising means for cookies is set out in the privacy policy.
7. Third-party links
Tip sheets sometimes link to pages elsewhere on the web because those pages are useful. We do not control them, we do not monitor them for changes, and we take no responsibility for their content, their accuracy, their availability or their handling of your data. Follow an external link and you leave the protection of these terms and of our privacy policy.
8. What you send us
If you send us a bug report, a correction or an idea for a game, you grant us permission to use it to improve the site — to fix the fault, adjust the text, or build the thing you suggested — with no obligation, credit or payment owed to you, and you confirm that you are free to share it. Do not send confidential material or anyone else's personal information. How we handle the personal data inside a contact message is described in the privacy policy.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The site is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that any page will be available at a given moment, that any game is free of defects, or that the tip sheets are complete or correct. Strategy advice is our opinion formed by playing, the games contain deliberate randomness, and no advice here guarantees a score. We may add, alter or withdraw games, tip sheets and features at any time, and we may take the site offline temporarily or permanently. Because your records live only in your browser's storage, clearing that storage, switching device or using private browsing will lose them, and we cannot recover them.
Nothing on this site is medical, psychological, educational or professional advice. Timing and reaction measurements produced by any game here are entertainment, not diagnostic results, and must not be used to evaluate anybody's health, fitness or ability.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for lost data, lost profits, lost savings or lost goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the site, whatever the theory of liability. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total liability to you is capped at the amount you have paid us to use the site, which is zero. Certain jurisdictions do not permit some of these exclusions or limitations, in which case they apply to you only to the extent permitted there.
11. Termination
We may block or throttle access from an address that abuses the site — flooding it with requests, scraping it in bulk, probing it for weaknesses or spamming the contact form. Since there are no accounts, this is a technical measure taken at the server, not a disciplinary process, and it needs no notice. Sections 5, 9, 10 and 12 continue to apply after your use of the site ends.
12. Governing law
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of them or out of your use of the site, are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the site's operator is established, and the competent courts of that jurisdiction have exclusive jurisdiction — without prejudice to any mandatory protection you enjoy as a consumer under the law of your country of residence, which nothing here is intended to displace. The operator's jurisdiction and full legal identification are available on request through the contact page.
13. Changes to these terms
These terms may be revised. The version published on this page is always the one in force, and the date under the title tells you when it last moved. If you keep using the site after a revision, the revised terms apply to you. If a court finds any provision unenforceable, the rest stays in effect and the offending provision is read down to the narrowest change that makes it valid.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms, permission requests, or anything that needs a human answer: [email protected], or use the contact form.
